Chemistry Faculty Co-Edit Volume on Environmental Sustainability

Usha Rao Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry, Mark Reynolds, Ph.D., associate professor of biochemistry and chemistry, and Xavier Savarimuthu, S.J., former MacLean Chair in Environmental Science, published a co-edited volume, “Go Green for Environmental Sustainability: An Interdisciplinary Exploration of Theory and Applications,” with the leading science and technology publisher CRC Press, Taylor and Francis Group in July. The book explores the latest research on the use of green methodologies to build a more sustainable future.

Did you know...

USciences is celebrating its bicentennial year in 2021? Philadelphia College of Pharmacy was founded in 1821 in Carpenters’ Hall by apothecaries who sought to establish improved scientific standards and train more competent apprentices and students. The college is the first college of pharmacy in the United States. Today, USciences is home to more than 30 degree granting programs in the health and science fields.

Reminder: HERI Administrative Staff Climate Survey Closes This Week

All University staff and administrative employees (full and part time) are invited to confidentially share their experience on campus through the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) Staff Climate Survey (SCS). The Staff Climate survey will display in University systems closes this Friday, August 20, 2021 (a week earlier than previously announced). Results from the survey will impact future work on campus on topics of diversity, equity and inclusion. Take the survey.

Hiring and Managing Federal Work Study Students and Student Workers Training

If you’re in the process of hiring new student workers or federal work study students for the new academic year, join us Thursday 8/19, Monday 8/23 or 8/30, to learn about the process, from hiring a student to submitting all of the requirements — including the EPAF. We’ll also discuss resources and best practices for managing new professionals. Register in Bridge.

We wish to acknowledge Ashura for all of our Hawks who observe. Ashura is a solemn day of mourning marked by many Muslims worldwide with a voluntary day of fasting that commemorates the day Noah left the Ark, and the day that Moses was saved from the Egyptians by God. For Shia Muslims, Ashura is a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
